Tips to Protect your Floors

Painting is a great way to update the look of any room; however, if you're not careful, painting can cause your floors unnecessary damage. From drips to splatter, it often just takes a simple old drop cloth to cover and protect your floors. Here are some tips to protect your floors and avoid the expensive cost of ruined flooring.

Remove furniture

If you cannot remove it completely from your room, move them away from your walls and ensure you have enough space to lay some cloth or plastic sheet on your floors comfortably. And don't forget to cover your furniture if not removed completely.

Clean shoes or remove them when exiting the area

Nothing worse than leaving a trail of paint on your unprotected floors outside the room you are painting. Make sure you clean the bottom of your shoes or remove them, especially if you covered your floors with a plastic drop cloth.

Clean ASAP

If paint has dripped onto your floor, it is important to clean it up as soon as possible. The cleanup process may vary depending on the type of flooring. If the paint has dripped onto a wood floor, a wet wipe is a great way to clean up the mess quickly. However, if the paint has dripped onto a carpet, the cleanup process will take a bit more effort.

Tape your edges

Nothing worse than your paper or cloth moving while you are painting, causing drips or splatter to damage the edges of your floors. Try taping the edges of your rosin paper or vinyl tablecloth. Place them right against your walls and secure them with medium-grade masking tape for maximum protection - no gaps allowed! Then after you're done with your paint job, remove the tape and admire that fresh coat of paint on those beautiful clean floors.

Fold your covers inwards when done

Once you are finished, carefully fold your covers inward so that any splatter or spills that have made their way onto the covers do not end up on the floor. Once the covers are folded, you can save them for your next project or throw them away.
