How to clean interior walls?

Unsurprisingly, our interior walls can get messy, grimy, and covered in all sorts of stains. From the food splatters in the kitchen to misjudged attempts at wall art by our kids, it can be hard to keep up with the mess and upkeep of our interior walls. This post will cover how to clean your interior walls quickly, efficiently, and affordably. In most instances, you can try cleaning stains with a wet rag, but for more dirty or grimy walls, you can try the following.

What you'll need:

  • Liquid hand or dish soap
  • Water
  • Soft cloths or rags
  • Two buckets
  • Vacuum with brush attachment

Avoid any harsh chemicals that might stain or even strip your walls.

1. Prep the area

Start by preparing the area by placing towels to catch any excess water or dirt that might drip.

2. Dust your walls

After getting your area ready, dust your walls using the brush attachment on your vacuum or using a microfiber cloth. You can wrap your microfiber cloth onto a mop for hard-to-reach areas

3. Get your cleaning solution ready

On one of your buckets, mix clear dish soap onto a gallon of water, and on your other bucket, have warm water

4. Test on a small portion of your wall

With any cleaning project, it is always recommended to test in a small area to make sure it is going to work, and it is not going to ruin it, in this case your walls.

5. Start with water

Sometimes water will be the only thing you need. Start by wiping with your warm water in a circular motion. This might be all you need to clean your walls; if not, at least now you know what areas will need more work.

6. Use your cleaning solution

After trying with just water, use your soapy water. Start from the top down, rubbing in a circular motion.

7. Rinse your walls

Soak a rag in clean water and start rinsing off the soapy dirty water.

8. Dry your walls.

Dry your walls with a clean rag. You can also open your windows or have a fan to dry them faster.
